The Furniture Buying Index climbed on point for October to a reading of 72, according to
America's Research Group.
Consumers attitudes have not changed much in the past few months, said Britt Beemer, chairman of Americas Research Group. Consumers are trying to look at their budgets for the fall selling season, but concerns about other issues are taking priority over discretional purchases like furniture."
Beemer said the index has remained fairly constant in the last 12 months with only a significant dip last month to 71.
The Furniture Buying Index is compiled monthly by America's Research Group from interviews with 5,000 to 8,000 consumers across the U.S. In a typical month, 80 percent of the consumers interviewed can name a specific furniture item they intend to buy.
