Hooker Furniture (NASDAQ: HOFT), Martinsville, Va., has promoted Steve Shelor to a newly created position, vice president, upholstery operations.
In the new post, Shelor is responsible for operations at Hooker's Hickory, N.C.-based Bradington-Young and Bedford, Va.-based Sam Moore divisions. He reports to Alan Cole, president of Hooker Furniture Upholstery.
Shelor has been vice president and general manager of custom seating specialist Sam Moore since November 2008. In his expanded role, he is responsible for finance, administration, purchasing, information technology and engineering functions at leather specialist Bradington-Young, and will continue to oversee Sam Moore operations, including manufacturing.
"This expansion of Steve's responsibilities for Hooker Upholstery operations underscores the positive impact that he has had on Sam Moore, and better enables the pursuit of joint efforts at both companies to take full advantage of each company's unique strengths," Cole said. "We are excited to have an executive of Steve's caliber who can play a broader role in helping lead our upholstery operational efforts."
Prior to joining Sam Moore, Shelor held executive positions with Rowe Furniture. Most recently he served as vice president of manufacturing operations for Rowe's Clayton Marcus division. He is a graduate of Virginia Tech with a business and administration degree, and also completed additional training at the University of Virginia Darden Executive Education program.
