Canadian retail sales edge up in February

OTTAWA - Statistics Canada says retail sales increased four-tenths of a per cent in February, rising to $37.3 billion. All but two of the 11 subsectors tracked by Statistics Canada showed improvements. The biggest increase was at gasoline stations, where sales were up 1.3 per cent. Some of the other retailers to see improvements were clothing and accessories stores, furniture and home furnishings as well as food and beverages. One of the two declining subsectors was motor vehicle and parts, where sales were down six-tenths of a per cent. Sales at electronics and appliance stores also fell by six-tenths
