Johnson Bros. Furniture Closing in Minnesota

By Home Furnishings Business in Retail Closings on February 14, 2011

Johnson Bros. Furniture has turned a retirement sale into a closing sale, the Duluth News Tribune reported Monday.

Johnson Bros. Furniture, which has stores in Duluth, Cloquet and Superior, had advertised the sale as a retirement event for President Larry Johnson's father. Plans to sell the business fell through, though, which led the retailer to convert to a going-out-of-business sale.

"There was going to be someone to take it over," Johnson said in the report. "Someone else was going to buy it, but that's not going to happen now."

The Duluth closure leaves two stores--Anderson Furniture Co. and Robert's Home Furnishings--in the city's furniture retail hub, which once boasted seven stores.
