Surya Celebrates 35th Anniversary

Rug, wall decor and textile vendor Surya will begin a year long 35th Anniversary Celebration at the Atlanta International Gift & Home Furnishings Market, Jan. 12-19.

To commemorate the anniversary, Surya, Calhoun, Ga., will host parties at all eight of the markets it participates in throughout the year including Atlanta, Las Vegas, New York and High Point. To kick off the year long celebration Surya will be hosting a party at the Ritz-Calton Atlanta Grand Ballroom this Friday with a catered dinner, cocktails and live music.

Surya was founded in 1976 in the northeastern India village of Ugapur by Surya Tiwari. Surya's mission at the time was to establish a company that would help support and provide income for his family and local villagers.

The company established its first U.S. office and warehouse in 1986 in New York. In 2001, Surya moved to Calhoun, Ga., now home to the company's corporate offices and warehouses. Surya has grown to one of the largest rug exporters in India and suppliers to the U.S. and international markets. 

"We are grateful for the support our customers have given us over the years," said Satya Tiwari, president of Surya. "We hope everyone will have a chance to come to at least one of our events this year.  We want to celebrate and honor them throughout the year to thank them for everything they have done to help make us the company we are today."
