Home furnishings retailer Hold It Contemporary Home raised over $10,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of San Diego in its Second Annual Chairs for Chair'ity event.
Chairs for Chair'ity is the brainchild of HICH Managing Partner Mike McAllister. This year, the funds raised by Chairs for Chairity went towards granting the wish of 9-year-old wish kid, Emily Lathrop, who suffers from a life-threatening heart condition known as aortic stenosis. Her wish is to visit Italy with her family next spring.
With the money raised from Chairs for Chair'ity at the Nov. 10 event at the San Diego store, Make-A-Wish also will be able to grant at least one other wish for a child in need.
This year's event drew many of southern California's most respected interior designers and firms, who supported the cause by designing and artistically transforming chairs into fun, quirky and fabulous works of art. This year, 24 chairs were auctioned off, up from 19 chairs in its inaugural year in 2009.
HICH provided the chairs with a retail value of $300 or less to the designers, who personally picked the chairs they wanted to design. Participating designers included award-winning hospitality designer, Davis Krumins of Davis Ink, Matt Devine of Matt Devine Studio, Lisa Wilson-Wirth of Arclinea San Diego, Jules Wilson of Jules Wilson, I.D., Michael Soriano of Onairos Design and Gus Modern among many talented others. The highest bid was for Matt Devine's "Untouchable Eiffel" which sold for $850.
