Bedding vendor Kingsdown Inc. announced Tuesday that President, COO and board member Pat Flippin will retire as of Jan. 3.
Flippin, who has served at Mebane, N.C.-based Kingsdown since 1986, started as plant manager of the Mebane facility. He is credited for growing the manufacturing division and was named vice president of manufacturing before being promoted to company president. He also developed patents on construction techniques. Flippin's influence in the bedding industry led to his role as past chairman of the International Sleep Productions Association.
"Pat is a hard worker and close personal friend to many in the Kingsdown family and others in our industry," said Eric Hinshaw, chairman and CEO of Kingsdown. "His contributions to Kingsdown and the entire industry are hugely significant. During his tenure, the company grew from being a regional mattress manufacturer to serving as a worldwide supplier of sleep products with multiple operations and licensees around the world. His knowledge of the manufacturing process and operations constructs for determining what makes the best bedding products has helped to shape Kingsdown into the company it is today."
Flippin has served the Mebane community as a past board member of the Alamance Community College Foundation and Mebane Arts & Community Center. He currently resides in Bangkok, Thailand.
A replacement for Flippin has not yet been named.
