Furniture Price Slasher Strikes

By Home Furnishings Business in Furniture Retailing on July 27, 2010

A man took furniture price cutting to extremes at a Utah furniture store, KSL reported Monday.

Early Monday, a man entered Envy Home Furnishings & Decor in Draper, where he began cutting price tags.

Jake Seethaler, co-owner of the store, had heard noises in the showroom and found the man in a feathered cap; and asked whether he could help with anything.

"I'd found the commotion that had gone on for the past three to five minutes was him cutting up price tags," Seethaler said.

He asked the man if he could help him with anything.

"He says to me, 'No, I'm with the "We the People Corporation" and I'm here slashing prices,'" Seethaler said in the report. The man fled the store.

Police arrested Shane Johnson a short while later and charged him with retail theft and disorderly conduct. Johnson had stolen sunglasses from another retailer after leaving the furniture store.
