Cadrys Handwoven Rug Specialists has joined the GoodWeave certification program, which works to end illegal child labor in the carpet industry and to offer educational opportunities to children in South Asia.
GoodWeave is the certification program of RugMark International.
Cadrys is one of 10 GoodWeave partner companies exhibiting at the 2010 International Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York City this weekend, which runs through Tuesday.
"When I first met the Cadry family, I was struck by their special commitment to the craft of rug-making and the people of Nepal," said RugMark USA Executive Director Nina Smith. "Cadrys connects the dots between corporate responsibility and successful business, so having the company on board will strengthen GoodWeaves market presence and capacity to achieve social change."
Cadrys is one of 75 GoodWeave certified brands carried by an estimated 1,500 retail outlets throughout North America. Cadrys currently sells its rugs in seven countries throughout the Pacific Rim, including Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore, the United States and Canada.
"Our work goes much deeper than business. I am so happy that GoodWeave helps us take those further steps¦ creating good working conditions, living standards and opportunities for education," said Mark Cadry, whose grandfather, Jacques Cadry, founded the company in 1952.
