United Furniture to Open Factory in Winston-Salem

Upholstery producer United Furniture has decided to open a production facility in Winston-Salem, N.C., in a former Hanesbrands factory.
After months of mulling over options in North Carolina and other states, United Furniture Industries has settled on the historic Weeks plant in Winston-Salem for a manufacturing and distribution hub that will create 200 jobs.
Mississippi-based United Furniture Industries expects to begin more than $5 million worth of upfits to the former Hanesbrands Inc. plant next month, said Robert Cottam, a consultant for United Furniture.
He said the company is already interviewing multiple contractors for extensive upfits to the building at 401 W. Hanes Mill Road that could begin as early as the second week of July.
