Surya Unveils Florence Broadhurst Designs

Rug and home décor supplier Surya has created a line of rugs and throws based on the designs of the late Australian designer Florence Broadhurst.

The collection is being shown at this week's High Point Market in the company's showroom at 4100 Shwowplace.

Featuring a range of classic motifs re-interpreted in flat weave and hand-tufted constructions, the Paddington and Mount Perry rug collections are inspired by Broadhurst’s spirit and eye for scale, pattern and color—evoking a contemporary, yet timeless, feeling. The lush new throw collection features antique lattice motifs in reversible knitted designs crafted of sumptuous 100 percent cotton.

“Stylistically ahead of her time, Florence Broadhurst’s influences were many and broad, and today reflect her ability to remain relevant and respond to divergent trends and tastes,” said Mark Smale, CEO, Signature Design Archive (SDA), managers of the licensing for Florence Broadhurst. “SDA is very careful in the selection of partners for Florence Broadhurst because of the standing and international importance of her design legacy. It is for this reason and Surya’s strong reputation in the industry that SDA are thrilled to be partnering with Surya to interpret Florence Broadhurst’s designs. We believe Surya’s new collections embody the energy, drama and diversity that Broadhurst came to espouse.”

Access to Broadhurst’s drawing archive by select brands within both the home design market and fashion industry has enabled her legacy to live on.

“We are excited to expand our partnership with the Florence Broadhurst brand through the addition of beautiful rugs and throws that showcase the designer’s unusual use of color and pattern to create modern looks with a decidedly vintage feel,” said Satya Tiwari, president, Surya. “Florence’s visionary, globally influenced motifs continue to be relevant today and we are pleased to be able to share these enduring and distinctive designs with our retailer and designer customers.”

Surya will also introduce a number of Asian-inspired and lattice motif pillows to its Florence Broadhurst pillow collection, which made its debut in April 2013.
