Roger Murray Dies at 71

Longtime Simmons Co. executive and enthusiastic philanthropist Roger Murray has died. He was 71.

Murray died Friday on his birthday.

After college, Murray joined Simmons Bedding Co. and worked his way from a sales trainee to vice president of national accounts before retiring in 2007.

One of his legacies within the Simmons was the annual All-American top sales awards trip. His philanthropic legacy was his participation on the boards of the Anti-Defamation League and the City of Hope's National Home Furnishings Industry Chapter.

As president of the City of Hope board, Murray led successful fundraising activities that resulted in more than $8 million in funds to be used to advance treatment and cures for cancer and diabetes patients.

Murray was a graduate of the University of Georgia and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was an avid golfer and fisherman.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years Presh Murray, brother Randy, sister Sally Lamperti, son Wilson Murray, son and daughter-in law Michael and Sloane Murray, grandchildren Lilly, Cameron, John Wilson, and Clayton.

Visitation with the family will be held tonight at H.M. Patterson & Son Arlington Chapel in Sandy Springs, Ga. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, July 3 at 11 a.m. at St. Luke's Presbyterian Church in Dunwoody Ga.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Luke's Presbyterian Church or sent to City of Hope, attention Sharon Joyce, 1055 Wilshire Blvd., 11th Floor, Los Angeles, Calif. 90017.
