Design Viewpoints Series Sets Fall Market Agenda

The High Point Market Authority and American Society of Interior Designers has set the schedule for its Design Viewpoint seminar series at October Market.

The Design Viewpoints Series will take place Oct. 20-22, starting each day at noon at the High Point Theatre, next to the Transportation Terminal in downtown High Point. The series offers up to .3 continuing education units (CEUs) to those who attend.

Sponsored by Horchow, all seminars in the Design Viewpoints Series are free to interior designers and retailers attending the Fall High Point Market. On tap for the series is a discussion on ethnic diversity and how it plays a role in the design taste of an increasingly globalized world, the problem solving aspects of interior design, and letting color tell the design story. A book signing event also will be featured with Jeanine Hays’ and Bryan Mason’s new book “Decorating with Culture, Objects and Soul.”

“ASID has joined High Point Market in offering first-rate speakers on topics that are germane to today’s designers. Our focus is to develop events that are educational while inspiring to the audience,” said Heidi Salati, director of member programs at ASID. “Our collaboration with High Point Market over the last few years has given ASID the chance to offer our membership quality educational opportunities while supporting one of the industry’s most respected home furnishings shows.”

Topics and speakers for the October 2013 Design Viewpoints Series include:
* “From All Corners: Exploring Diversity in Design in the 21st Century," Sunday, Oct. 20.
From All Corners is a panel conversation bringing together a group of today's most prominent designers of color, to discuss creating personalized spaces as well as the presence and role of ethnic diversity in the design tastes of an increasingly globalized world.Topics will include the influence of ethnic background on design style and meeting the needs of a multicultural clientele. The panel will be led by Aphrochic founders Jeanine Hays and Bryan Mason. A book signing will follow for Hays’ and Mason’s new book, "Decorating with Culture, Objects and Soul." .1 CEU credit.
* “Researching Home: Evidence-Based Residential Design,” Monday, Oc. 21.
