Brooklyn Bedding Launches the Titan, Plus-Size Mattress

Mattress producer and retailer Brooklyn Bedding has unveiled the Titan by Brooklyn, offering a plus-size solution for plus-size sleepers with construction designed to address the main concerns of customers of size.

"Throughout our 25-year history, we've shunned the one-size-fits-all approach in the mattress category," said John Merwin, owner and chief marketing officer. "It was only natural for us to craft a personalized solution for those larger sleepers who have a difficult time finding a quality mattress that offers ample support…and ample comfort and durability."

According to Brooklyn Bedding engineers, sleepers in the plus-size category are more likely to see premature wear and tear on their sleep surfaces. Whether they identify as big and tall or curvy, customers in the category share problems unique to their mattresses that include:

  • More middle sag in the mattress
  • More softening of the entire sleep surface
  • Decreased edge support
  • Uneven distribution of support across the surface
  • Decreased comfort and support over time
  • More frequent night sweats
  • Increased motion transfer between sleep partners

"Those who cater to the plus-size category have tended to focus on apparel," said Merwin. "Customers of size are impacted daily, though, by the engineering and design choices of manufacturers and retailers alike in the furnishings and mattress industries. We took a very thoughtful approach in addressing and solving for each of the pain points our larger size customers described."

In engineering the Titan by Brooklyn Bedding, the company focused first on offering substantial support for heavier sleepers. The Titan delivers extra lift and extra durability by including a firmer, two-inch layer of the company's exclusive TitanFlex foam. TitanFlex adjusts to movement more quickly than traditional memory foam but still delivers contouring comfort.

The company’s new mattress also features infusions of both TitaniumGel and CopperGel in the TitanFlex foam layer, each of which contributes to a cooler night's sleep and greater stability within the cell structure. A one-inch layer of quilted, gel memory foam tops the mattress—used to not only promote greater breathability but to resist long-term body impressions.

Up to 1,024 industrial strength, individually pocketed TitanCaliber springs make up the core of the mattress, designed to deliver targeted pressure point relief while also helping decrease motion transfer between sleep partners. A thicker than standard, two-inch high-density foam is added to the base to enhance the durability of the mattress while reinforcing the individually pocketed springs as they compress—also improving the life of the mattress.

Brooklyn Bedding offers a portfolio of sleep accessories that complements the launch of the new mattress, including its Super Duty High Rise Platform.  Engineered to provide critical center support for all mattresses, the platform can bear up to 3,000 pounds of evenly distributed weight and easily connects to most headboards and footboards with the purchase of an adapter. Naturally breathable Bamboo Twill Sheets and Talalay Latex Pillows are designed for both comfort and a cooler night's sleep, helping to alleviate night sweats.

The Titan by Brooklyn Bedding retails exclusively online between $699 for a twin to $1,249 for a California King. Like all Brooklyn Bedding mattresses, it comes with a free 120-night comfort trial and a 10-year warranty. The company also offers free nationwide shipping with bed-in-a-box delivery.
